"There is now overwhelming evidence that obesity has a very strong genetic basis, in addition we now know body weight is very vigorously defended by the brain. In that following weight loss the hormones that control hunger (that circulate in our blood) change in a direction to make people more hungry. And hence making it very difficult to maintain weight loss." - Joe Proietto.
Both he and his counterpart Leslie Campbell agree that non-medical intervention cannot reverse obesity. They are both experts, they represent two different opposing opinions on the causes and consequences of obesity, and yet they agree on the basic facts that a. it is not a person's fault if they become obese it's physiological, and b. non-medical intervention doesn't work to reverse obesity. End of story.
You can't decide to "not eat so much" - that advice doesn't work. The hunger hormones, ghrelin and leptin biochemically dictate to you how much you will eat each day. You have to avoid high-risk foods entirely if you expect to prevent obesity. It's not a matter of eating them a little bit, it's a case of not consuming them at all - or if you do only on special occasions. It does not work to "try and eat" in moderation.

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
