Yeah, probably. That's most likely the cause of their later sound, but it's also a bit to do with branding. LOG branded themselves as American Metal, and traditionally we've been pretty dirty, a la Burn the Priest, New American Gospel, and As the Palaces Burn. More concerned with attitude than perfection.
Granted there have been some crisp American metal bands, but I associate that more with the Europeans, which I do like when it's branded that way. I even like it when an American band does it as their style and as advertised. But given a choice, I'm more likely to gravitate towards a grittier sound.
