I would note, also, that the Snopes article mentions that the "57 states" slip-up immediately was used as evidence of the President being a secret Muslim, or at least implying it.
When President Bush made gaffes, it was usually of a type that made you question his grasp on the language. My personal favorite is, "Strategery." Which, to be fair, I think is superior enough to the word it replaced that I now use it on occasion.
But nobody would think that President Obama doesn't know how many states there are, unless they think he's "not really an American", on some level. Just throwin' that out there. It's clear that he started to say, "50 states", realized he was about to make a factual error, and corrected himself, being tired enough to forget he had just said fifty-, not forty-, when he eventually finished with "seven".
It is funny, by itself... but the willingness of the dishonest people out there to jump on such a thing should make them too ashamed to show their faces in public. But they have no shame. So many legitimate reasons to argue about the President's policies and actions, but they feel they have to make up false arguments that try to paint him as "not one of Us", not a Real American.
Shame, shame.

A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
