1) hardware failure
2) failed memory chip
3) corrupt ram due to malware
4) failing harddisk
The modern cpu's will stop themselves from burning out. It may be recoverable.
Let it cool down for an hour.
Turn it back on, it should be ok, run your scan then before it heats up again if you can.
Likewise, confirm the fan is working or not working. This is probably the most important step at this stage.
