To be honest, I'd known about Mali's music scene for a while. Of course, given that I had read an interview with Vieux Farka Toure (son of Malian guitar legend Ali "D.N.A. of the Blues" Farka Toure) that most African guitarists use the Roland JC-120 with BOSS pedals, it's kind of surprising to see a backline that's all Ampeg, and in another video, you can see him with a Dunlop Crybaby and an MXR Super Badass distortion pedal, (looks like another contender for my acoustic distortion rig).
Then again, it is an Ngoni/xalam, which appears to be a potential ancestor to the banjo (along with the Akonting), so maybe the rules are different.
