How much of my time and energy do you think I'm using to drive 5 minutes to a poll and vote? Sanders is motivating voter turnout in record numbers that continue to grow as his momentum builds. If he actually manages, against the flow of the media and the rest of the politics machine, to spark enough voters to get himself nominated and elected in a year when so many seats are up for re-election, it seems very likely that the same voters who do that will also have an impact on the congressional election (which will be on the same day and probably even the same ballot in many states). While gerrymandering does influence those elections significantly, that doesn't mean the majority party never changes. It can and does. It is not naive or wishful thinking to acknowledge that the party majority could swing in a big election year with a lot of seats up for grabs.


I'm not saying this will definitely happen, I'm just saying it's ignorant and short-sighted to believe with certainty that it won't, especially as Sanders's momentum continues to build as the more diverse/progressive states start voting. We all saw what happened in the last round of caucuses.
