I would say silencing a victim of sexual assault (if that actually happened) is just as much a problem as the sexual assault itself. I don't see it as obfuscating the issue at all.
Yeah, it's a tricky issue: if you give attention to not-serious political accusations I see that as drawing away from the actual issue and sensationalizing it for political reasons. It's taking advantage of a very real problem. But if you don't give attention to it, and you're dealing with a real victim, it's pretty awful to ignore it.
If that actually happened is the hard part. But I do maintain there needs to be backing for this kind of claim in politics, otherwise literally anyone can take down any politician by claiming to be a victim of sexual assault.
