I am trying to leave the discussion to others, but as long as I was involved, I'll just leave my two cents and butt out. I think that the specifics of the use of hate speech, what it is, why it should be policed, and so on, can be debated at great length, and possibly still not achieve agreement from all parties. I agree with policing hate speech, although I may disagree with some of the particulars. I think this is a reasonable rule, made unfortunately necessary by the reality that hate speech, what it means for something to be hate speech, and what to do about it are difficult matters to address. The debates about Twitter and Facebook and Youtube continue to this day. I think these are all topics that members and people can reasonably disagree on without hatred being directed towards those who, for whatever reason, hold a different view than you do, or who want to see the questions addressed. The change in policy was necessitated by those realities, not by any unreasonableness or maliciousness of individual parties, necessarily. I fully accept that some parties do fall under that cloud, but to malign all parties simply because you and they do not share an opinion is, imho, inappropriate. It is the reality of the situation that prompted the changes, not that all those who have had questions or issues about the matter are either wrong or defective in some way, or have necessarily behaved inappropriately. And even some of those who may have may have had good intentions in doing so. Again, imho.
