Please, these are two very different examples. Haven't read the article, and nor am I saying I agree with the ban, but I've seen both movies. Gone With the Wind makes it sound like black people were happy servants or something which was not historically the case. That might be part of what the deal here is. Whitewashing, I think they call this.
If I am understanding HBO's intent, it wasn't to promote the movie, but to show it, and comment after as to why the movie was a bad influence on society.
I think HBO intended to treat it like a Leni Riefenstahl piece.
