The difference between "good enough" and "nothing but the best" for me is about pride of ownership and enjoyment.
If it is something I enjoy, I want the best. If it is something I just need for living, I don't care if it is the cheapest available.
I put value in my hobbies, particularly astronomy, and I can now afford the best, so I am buying it. The enjoyment I get from that is immense. But I'll happily wear cheap clothes - I just don't take pride in fashion.
