Because, apparently, COVID-19 isn’t still spreading at an alarming rate, and people totally aren’t dying of the disease at a rate that we haven’t seen since before the vaccine was readily available.

Then again, you may have a point. Maybe we should have reached the point where we didn’t need to wear masks because we should have all gotten vaccinated when we had the chance to get herd immunity before it had the chance to mutate into newer strains, but we don’t live in a world where people can be reasonably expected to give a shit about sanity, the lives of others, or even their own lives. And therefore, the mask mandates remain in place.

Even in countries with near full vaccination rates, Covid 19 is still spreading like wildfire. We're still running at c. 8,000 new cases a day, with full adult coverage and most children having at least two shots.

Vaccine requirements should be the first to go.  By now, everyone who is EVER going to get vaccinated has done so.  Against new variants, protection against infection wanes after a few months.  Are we going to define "fully vaccinated" as "had a booster within the last 3 months"?  If not, then it loses its usefulness.

The virus is beyond containment or eradication.  We are already at the "learn to live with it" stage, providing it doesn't overwhelm the healthcare system.  For that - we need as many vaccinated as possible, but mandates won't help.  The right-wing is fully entrenched and is now against all vaccines of all type.  Science has lost the PR war with part of the population.

End vaccine mandates once the anti-vaxxers are gone. My preference is to stick them on an unihabited and remote island with just the clothes on their backs. Give them the freedom they profess to truly desire.
