You do know, that when smart people talk, the first person involved in the discussion that has to resort to Ad Hom attacks yields/loose the debate. As it is generally recognized they wish to continue the opposition of the subject matter, but are not able to articulate a viable defense of their position. So they resort to trying to destroy the messenger because they are unable to properly destroy the message.
Stew-pid people on the other hand tend to lead with AD Hom attacks. because they only know "Dis make me Mad! When Me Mad Me Lash out! Me Make Other Man look Stoo-ped in from of me friends by me call him bad Names! Dat Make Me win!! Dat Mean Me smarter-est than Stoo-ped man! Me friends even says so!

4. “you are wrong because you are ignorant and stupid” is an ad hominem attack.
I may be guilty of 1, 2, and 3, but not 4.
So you can’t dodge by calling foul on a hold that was not made.
