In and of themselves, nothing. Atheists don't 'offer' anything. They just don't believe in God. However, a huge percentage of the scientific community that has made and is still making those advances you mention are atheists. Coincidence? Possibly.

If Galileo's revelation about the solar system had been accepted straight away instead of opposed by the church, who knows how much more could have been achieved?
