Why does God care about S E X?

Boru brought up a good point in the Gay thread and I thought we could dive deeper with the question as the actual focus.
Why does god care about our genitals so much?
It's one of the things that really influenced my incredulity and atheism that a god would be so focused on our genitals and what we're doing with them. I know in Mormonism, the focus on sexual purity and repression is part of the BITE model programming for the cult(sex being such a natural part of being human, you can influence and control people by making them feel guilt and shame around this natural instinct they'll never be free from) and a core part of the doctrine(you can't have trans or gay folks because the model for the planetary rewards in the afterlife is Adam and 5+ Eves; The harem god factory doesn't work with Adam and 5+ Steves or if Eve was assigned male at birth, although it'd probably be more fun to run around an empty planet with a bunch of very gay god sex happening). So, I understand for that religious cult why they focus on genitals so much.
But why does god have this focus in other religions?

Religion in the ancient World was about control, and controlling who had (and did not have) access to fertile females was naturally coopted by those in power who used religious authorities to maintain that power and access to that limited and valuable resource.

God would rather you masturbate than have sex with strange females. If you can't find a consistent sex partner, you're better off going solo. This is not unjustified.......the more females you have sex with, the greater your risk of getting a disease, plus getting a bunch of females pregnant would be a nightmare. God is just watching out for you, when He wants to "restrict" your sex life. Although you're free to do what you want. I know a lot of people would rather act like monkeys than dignified human beings.

Gods are interested in sex because we are. It’s not a control thing, or, if we prefer..not just or only or always. Anything at all fundamental to the human experience will find a story relating that thing to gods, to the divine. That’s what they’re for.
So, yes, well tell god stories about the confluence of sex and control- but also about liberation, freedom, release.

I have met quite a few "strange" females ... sometimes strange can be fun!

For the Catholics sex was all about procreation. All that 'be fruitful and multiply' stuff. It wasn't for fun or pleasure. It was just for breeding more Catholics...within the confines of a Catholic marriage of course. Or in the case of a Catholic and an other having kids, the kids were to be raised Catholic...like my siblings and me.
