Argument against atheism
#21
RE: Argument against atheism
I laugh my ass off when any theist talks about logic and then begins with the premise that his/her fucking vision of 'god' is the real one.

Provide evidence that your god exists or don't waste my time.

yes whateverrist, if you do not share the belief that unicorns are not pink then you either believe unicorns are pink, or you haven't honestly considered and questioned what color unicorns are. Everyone knows they are pink though I hope you can take me on my word on that fact.

You can believe whatever you like. Most people I know believe some things are true and other things are false. If you are happy in your ignorance kudos to you, but I am not about just let it slide when you say "anything goes". Science would tend to be on my side. If you believe that science and logic aren't real and that nothing is objectively true or knowable fine, you're an atheist.

An atheist is one without belief in god, it's got fuck all to do with anything else.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Or, just maybe, you do not think unicorns exist at all; in which case the whole question is pointless and any answer is meaningless and also false.

If you are not sure whether anything is objectively true, if you believe that there is a possibility that everything you think is wrong, but have no evidence to support or disprove that claim, that is not atheism. Atheism is a held belief, a conviction. It is a statement. If, deep down, you actually BELIEVE that there is no objective reality beyond your own perception and consciousness then you are an atheist. Atheism, while conceptually rational, is wholly illogical within the sphere of history, scientific observation, and the human experience.

Nope.

I believe the odds that a God does exist are so incredibly small that they are virtually negligible. I must concede my agnosticism, but I am a de-facto atheist. These are shades of grey, nothing is as black or white as you present it to be.

Even if I were truly and only agnostic, I would have no idea what God not to consider a possibility; there are so many to choose from.

I believe the term used on this forum is "Agnostic Atheist".

Bully for you, Darwinning, for not letting him draw you over to the dark side. I think the only completely defensible position is a declaration of a 0% lack of belief in gods along with an admission of 0 knowledge for or against stuff we've never experienced.

Anyway. Enough dabbling. Time for important questions. What color is the hair on your second head?

listen ace ocean, believe that atheism is simply a belief that no God exists if you want. You fail to define what God is, so you invent God, and then you choose not to believe in your own perception of God. If one is logically honest, as I see it, atheism can not coexist with objectivity or science.

Darwinning. Yes, one could not believe in unicorns, that would be a BELIEF that unicorns did not exist. However, for unicorns to objectively not exist rather than people only believing they didn't exist one would scientifically need to define and search for evidence supporting the idea that unicorns were purely figments of the human imagination. Belief is not reality.

Okay you are one person who claims to be a christian who I am no longer interested in redeeming. What is it you would-be christians say? "To hell with you." Yes, I think that's it.

Ok, it's Ace OTANA! Not ocean. Put some glasses on.
I as an agnostic atheist am not claiming that there is no god. Never have. I've rejected the claim theists have made. You guys claim there is a god, I respond by saying "I don't believe in this god you speak of"
Theist: Belief in god
Atheist (A-theist): Without belief in god.
Where is the claim made? When does it become a 'belief'?
You're the one who's supposed to define this god of yours. Not me. It's your belief, your claim.

Isn't your argument the reason for agnostic atheism, amkerman?
