Have you more detail on this Giff? The only FTL stuff I ever heard of was the theoretical idea that there was a tachyon based dimension of some description where everything must go faster than light, no idea if it was real science or not so I assume not until demonstrated otherwise. Hasn't stopped me using it as part of the scenario I'm developing though Smile

Acctually not more then that it's physical possible. However it's veru inlikely that someone could have such technology.

Even if there where on alien species that pocess such technology would there be a very high odds for them to find us.

Also iof they travel beyond the speed of light or even the speed of light, then they will make a sort of time travel. Because when they return will hundreds of year have passed by on their homeplanet (depending how far away and long time they have been traveling) The same time diffrence will occur on earth if they travel at that speed. Some species might have detcted us now and then strat travel and when they get here have perhaps millenium passed.

There is also a theory about warp travel, that is also theoretical possible since hyperspace does exists. However the energy that is required to achive it is like 200 solars, which is impossible. But it's good to know that it's possible in theory Smile

Hold on a minute Giff.
  • It's physically possible? Where and when was this established?
  • High Odds? I think you have to establish there's an alien species that is sufficiently technically advanced to make sweeping statements like you just did.
  • Hyperspace exists? Again, where and when was this established?
  • Warp drive is a theory? Like a real scientific thery? Yet again I ask where and when was this established?
  • What's a solar?
  • As far as I am aware (hypothesis) time travel is only possible within the well of a black hole where you may be able to reverse time without breaking physics/quantum mechanics (it was in New Scientist).

About warp drive: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcubierre_drive

Hyperspace can be explained as a non-euclidean space: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Euclidean_geometry

About Time dilation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_dilati...ace_flight

Solar: Swenglish for the same amount of energy as a star or sun generates. I meant 100 stars. Big Grin I heared a scientist siad that when explaining how warp drive would work. Don't have the exact number but it was a lot of energy which would requite around the number I said.

High odds, meaning slim chance or none. like 1: several bilions or something. Just meaning that is not very likely that anyone could travel like that since it requires so much energy to create.
By the way why is the threads name just ".........."? now? And what happen to G-marks posts?

Giff,

Thanks for the clarification, interesting stuff though I would point out that time dilation is not the same as reversal. But still interesting so thanks Smile

I said a sort of time travel. Big Grin Ok could have said been clearer, didn't mean reversal. BUt dilation becomes like a time travel forward in time. But I get you point. It's not really the same.

However I wish I had more time to give you more then just you links to wikipedia.

Also is time travel as jumping forward in time and going back possible. wonder if that perhaps is possible. Heared that someone said that time is like stirring a cup of coffe. The spoon make the cofee move and if you put something in it, then that thing will move with the motion. You ride with time so to speak. Wish I could make it clearer, but it's more easier to explain visually.
