Emotions Vs Feelings

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
Read neuroscientist Antonio Damasio or lookup his videos on YouTube. I seem to recall him making a distinction between emotion and feelings.
But in everyday language, most people don't distinguish between emotions and feelings.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
Emotions are interior (sadness, fear, joy, etc.). Feelings are exterior (hot, cold, etc.).
God is a personification of ourselves, what we wish to be, and that which we do not understand.
The difference is left entirely up to semantics. Meaning, you have to define your terms instead of just asking the question.

One may say, 'I feel sad' or 'I feel happy' or 'I feel scared' etc.
To me that makes a slightly fuzzy distinction between feelings and emotions. I suggest that to 'feel' something is to be conscious of it but an emotion may well be present and only operating upon your sub-conscious before you 'feel' it - i.e. become consciously aware of it. Similarly you may get a surge of adrenalin enabling you to run faster before actually 'feeling' scared. You may drink enough alcohol to make you relaxed and happy before you realise that you 'feel' happy. That's my personal view but if you really want to know more try: "NEUROPLASTICITY AND EMOTIONAL PROCESSES OF THE BRAIN": DR JAAK PANKSEPP. He is holding a seminar in June, I'm sure details are on the 'net. |
