I understand what you are saying but (and this is the key point you seem to be missing) when I went to ask advice on installation and was advised to use apt, the discussion INCLUDED apt-get therefore it is NOT unreasonable to consider them all the same thing and indeed, if you check the Wiki page on apt, it also mentions apt-get (and if Wiki isn't your poison, it isn't mine, you look across the web and you'll find that most discussions of apt include discussion of apt-get so, again, I will stick to my guns and consider apt-get to be a part of the apt suite whether or not apt alone can be used with other things.

And if that's the case it CERTAINLY was not made clear to me in discussions of how to use it when I sought them in various Linux forums so, again, if it's OK with you, I'll stick to my considered view that apt and apt-get are part of the same application suite in the same way that (on a larger scale) Office is an application suite yet each component can work independently.
