Lee-Enfield .303 caliber rifle. Still commonly in use the middle-east, even though the design is 100+ years old.

A thought I heared that name before. 100 years old? Must been a design long before it's time if the same is still use today.

Also I thought the mainly used Ak47s in the middle east?

Some types were converted for sniper use yes. The UK used the mk4 up until the end of the seventies as a sniper rifle.

I think it was very much OF its time. It was used by The British army from 1895 to 1957. A masterpiece of late Victorian design and engineering. There were a few million kicking around after WW1 and still lot after 1957.Obsolete weapons are cheap..

A beast of a weapon, high velocity;it made a HUGE exit wound.In WW 1 thousands died from wounds which would be minor from a less powerful weapon. Very accurate for hundreds of yards. Bolt action,magazine fed meant rapid fire compared with earlier breech loading weapons.. It also has a kick like a mule.

Imo THE great design of the C20th is the Russian AK47.(Kalsihnakov; 1947) Gas operated,simple, reliable,rapid fire accurate. THE rifle of choice of irregulars all over the world if they can get hold of them. I lot of them found their way to the Middle East after the collapse of the Soviet Union.


MY weapon of choice was the Armalite because it was so light. As a weapon,the official Australian rifle,the 7.62 SLR was superior imo. (could be converted to automatic in under 3 minutes using a screwdriver and matchstick)

I've also heard Mauser has a very good design too, is that still used today?

Mauser had plenty of good designs (I even own a Mauser), are you referring to one in particular?

Not reall don't know so much about Mauser. I do know my father used one wen he was in the military. I think he said the one he had was deisgned during the WWII or perhaps even before that. What I know did he tell me that the were extremly accurate.

He haven't talked so much about that since he dissliked guns and violence, even though he was an officer during his military service.
