Role players, Warhammer 40k, writers? Anyone?

Role players, Warhammer 40k, writers? Anyone?
I'm all of those things, I'm just wondering if anyone else is. I roleplay extensively via AIM and MSN, which is always good for keeping my left brain sharp; there's something fun about team-writing a story. I play Warhammer 40,000 on occasion, as a Grey Knight army...which is ironic, being they're one of the most zealously religious factions in the game...if not THE most zealous. I so far have to borrow other models from people in order to play since I only have a single Terminator squad and a Finecast model of Castellan Crowe...and most of those aren't even painted yet. And finally, I am a writer in my spare time when I'm not wasting my limited life on Battlefield 3.

I was just curious if anyone else does any of that.

I write in my spare time, yeah. Most of it has some kind of fantasy/paranormal element to it, if it isn't a full blown high fantasy adventure (though I like to stay away from the traditional Northern European trappings of fantasy, as much as I do love that ambiance). I also like writing (probably very bad) "philosophical/mystic" poetry. I don't play Warhammer or anything, but I really love playing fantasy/sci fi video games. I love getting lost in other worlds.

What can I say, I'm a huge nerd. Tongue I'm even a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, if anyone knows what that is.

I used to play 40k... but, I eventually stopped and just painted a lot. I haven't even glanced at my models in a while.

Most of my role-play lately has been romantic or sexual. I have enjoyed it more than a little and hope it continues forever Heart

I used to be into Warhammer for a while. Those models are really expensive though... I never really had enough money for it when I was into to it and eventually got other, cheaper hobbies.

My writing tends to be sci-fi, fanfictions, and/or erotica. I try to avoid doing "typical" fanfictions, and try to actually give them interesting characters and stories, or I try to develop a character even further. I also try to never succumb to the terrible Mary Sue characters that seem to pervade them [like the hero of a series being beaten easily by someone's ridiculous self-insert character, shit like that]. Most of my fanfiction writing at the moment pertains to Fallout. I actually DO have a semi-self-insert character for it, but "characterized." He's not overpowered, in fact his first act in the story is getting jumped by a bunch of raiders and being shot to hell before someone saves his ass. FFFFFFF...I'm going off on a tangent again.

As far as 40k goes, I agree; it is WAY too damn expensive. They recently introduced a new line, called Finecast. Replaces their pewter models with plastic-resin hybrid, right? So it's MUCH cheaper to make. The thing is, the current batches are TERRIBLE; they are bubbled to fucking hell and back. And best of all, the fuckers RAISED the price. They didn't pass on the savings, THEY INCREASED THE PRICE OF SOMETHING THAT IS CHEAPER AND EASIER TO MAKE. God dammit, GW...

Vaeolot: Hit me up, girl. ;D *lmao* I tend to do just about every genre in RPing. Action, suspense, drama. Also sex. With a decent RPing partner I can crank out like 2+ paragraph posts a turn. Problem is trying to find decent RPing partners these days. I feel like such a snob sometimes when it comes to RPing because someone will be giving me four to five lines and I'll turn my nose up at it, completely forgetting that eight years ago I was the exact same way.

I'm a Tyranid player at heart.

But I can't be arsed to acquire an army.

However, one day, there will be a Hierophant lounging over my desk. And it will be awesome.

Oh, oh, the ol' switch-a-ma-roo! It's not you, it's ME. I get it. It's not the only thing I think about; I thought about what I wanted to eat later just now, for instance Big Grin

Nothing more boring than characters without flaws. Making a character flawed so they're believable, but not so flawed that the reader is thinking 'what a dumbass'. Unless, of course, the character is supposed to be a dumbass.

Do you like steampunk? I love the whole aesthetic surrounding that. While I'm no role player (well, I did once on Omegle Big Grin) I very nearly began development of an indie game with a dystopian steampunk setting (think The Mysterious Geographic Adventures of Jasper Morello) but ended up taking over development of a FO3 mod instead. When I sat down to write the central story components to that steampunk-y mod, I really appreciated how difficult it is to create a compelling character.
