I work 55+ hours a week programming. I don't know what you're talking about. Tongue

I've made use of 360 controllers for my regular computer equipment. It's all part of the same ecosystem. Wink

Well, as soon as I figure out this neat trick of yours, I may change my tune. It really is all about the controller for me. I grew up using controllers for games. I will always prefer them.

Was going to post general descriptions of my body as my rig info, but I decided that much sexiness had to be contained in the 18+ forum.

I'm on a Macbook Pro... and I frankly don't need anything 'better'.

RE: Post your rig information
I find the console vs. PC gaming fanboyism curious (not talking about those that merely have a preference, but rather those that evangelize their choice to the world).

In the PC gaming world, it seems that game studios push the envelope of graphics technology to the point where if you want to have the best visual experience that the latest games are capable of, you're going to be on an expensive treadmill of upgrades (particularly video cards). I find it more than a little ludicrous that a $300 video card I buy today is going to be an expensive doorstop in 1-3 years - if my goal is to be able to get the most out of current games. Not only that, but on timescales slightly longer than that, your video card bus isn't going to be able to fully support the latest gear, which results in a need to upgrade MB / CPU / RAM / etc to stay current.

I fully realize that there are plenty of serious gamers that accept this as the price to pay for the best gaming experience. Meh, it's not for me. I just don't spend that much time gaming, and it's not that important for me to be able to run games on super-ultra-high quality settings at native resolution. So I got off that treadmill - when my desktop system (which was decently spec'ed for gaming when I built it a couple of years before) needed upgrades, I gave it to my son, and bought a reasonably fast laptop with middle-tier 3D video hardware. It runs Skyrim OK, and it runs all of my older games just fine, and I can take it wherever I want, hook it up to my LCD TV, or whatever. The luster of new gaming titles has worn off somewhat - in terms of gameplay, there seems to be a real dearth of innovation, and that really has driven me to not care much about new titles (excepting Skyrim, being a big fan of the TES series).

About the same time I replaced my aging gaming rig, I bought a PS3. You know, with as much criticism as PC gaming fanboys give to the console crowd, you can say one thing for sure: new titles aren't going to force you to upgrade. They have to target the hardware that exists, not the moving target that is PC hardware.

Yeah, visually speaking, console titles lag behind the best of what you can attain on a PC. From my perspective, I don't care - if a game has engaging gameplay, the eye candy is secondary, and if a game is all eye candy, I'm going to get bored with it very quickly. I still occasionally play the original Civilization (now over 20 years old), and other titles that aren't quite so aged (XCOM, Diablo 1/2, Starcraft, TES3, TES4, and a few others). I still have titles on the PS2 and original Xbox that get a lot of play as well - and I don't really think I'm missing out on much.

I'd probably still play some titles on my N64, or even my freaking Atari 2600, if they hadn't stopped working eons ago. I had C64 and Apple II games that I'd still play if I had the hardware to run them.

IMHO, good gameplay wins, and no amount of eye candy can make up for it.

P.S. One thing I will say for consoles - there are genres (such as FPS games) that IMHO, suck on consoles. Likewise, there are genres that work better on consoles than on the PC.

All IMHO, YMMV, and all of that.

So not the point of the thread.

This was started by a pc gamer, with the hope that people could compare specs. It was hijacked by console gamers who apparently exist to talk about hardware that's ten years old, and to insult everyone for who the post was intended.

There's a serious misconception about when people need to upgrade. I could keep my same pc for ten years and play the newest games, as long as I was content that they would never look better than they do now. Having a PC doesn't force you to upgrade to play the latest games. It just gives you the option.

I hate to tell you, but once that 720 hits the market no company will be caught dead making 360 games. Meanwhile, I'll still be playing the latest games without upgrading a bit. Not on the highest graphical settings, but you've already said that doesn't matter. And at some point, as others have said, consoles die and it's either not worth it to get another one, or impossible to find another one. PCs stay backwards compatible. Just yesterday I played Daggerfall, a game from the 90's designed for a DOS OS. It's a great game, but console games from the 90's are no longer played since nobody has the console or the projection TV to play them on. Sooner or later the 360 will hit that point, and it won't matter how smexy it is.

You'll just wish you could play the old games again, and the new games, and wonder why you bought a money-pit.

In short, a PC will let you play longer, it'll keep your favorite games up to date, it'll let you play the newest games, it'd give you access to hundreds of legal freeware games, it'll be out of date less quickly than a console, etc. My own card will be strong well into the PS4 lifecycle as long as I'm content with graphics merely double what the 360 has, and only slightly better than what the 720 will have. It's not an exaggeration to say that, if you know some tricks, you don't need to upgrade for longer than with a console and still get the eyecandy if you're so inclined.

That said, I like the other interpretations of rigs.

Quit being a baby. Until now, no one insulted you. Now, you are taking opinions about machinery personally. It's ridiculous. It wasn't hi-jacked. I made a comment/joke that I didn't have a rig and you flipped out. It is only being hi-jacked by your asshattery, at this point. I read a lot of print books. I don't get my period when people prefer e-books. Go back to talking about your computer and deal with the fact that my preferences are different than yours and my "rig" is an XBox.
P.S. I didn't see you whining when the first page of fucking posters didn't realize it was specifically for PC gamers, as the wording of the OP was ambiguous.

Oh, I hit a nerve, did I?

You didn't know about how the console scaling works, did you? Thinking

The OP mentioned a GTX 580. That's the furthest thing from ambiguous I can think of.

Why is it that when I swear everyone thinks I am mad?

You are obviously fanatical about this and are having issues understanding that this is not a personal debate or even a debate. You like PC gaming. Bully for you. I won't argue that it is worse or better because I don't care. I personally prefer consoles for reasons already mentioned. I didn't punch your grandma in the face or anything, so why the anger?

It is ambiguous. It didn't specify that the thread should be specifically about gaming rigs, hence the entire first page being people posting things that have nothing to do with games or computers even. It wasn't until consoles were mentioned that your panties got lodged in your bum, so it is extremely evident that you are simply a PC fanatic that likes to go off on random people who enjoy consoles. I can't see why you would care so much. My initial post was clearly a joke. So, for the umpteenth time, relax, guy. Talk about your girlfriend/computer all you want. Tongue

I admit, that last line had me laughing.
I don't suppose it would help my case if I said that I gave my computer a female voice?
