Boston pays $170k to shut man up and not change
REF: http://aclum.org/news_3.27.12

Context:

Mr. Glik was arrested by Boston police for using his mobile phone to record a forcible arrest in action and charged with wiretapping, amid other charges.

After the charges were thrown out,
Quote:He had complained about the Internal Affairs Division's investigation of his complaint and the way they treated him. IAD officers made fun of Glik for filing the complaint, telling him his only remedy was filing a civil lawsuit.

The corrupt police department and their cronies basically told him to go pound sand. So he did:
Quote:After the City spent years in court defending the officers' arrest of Glik as constitutional and reasonable, IAD reversed course after the First Circuit ruling and disciplined two of the officers for using "unreasonable judgment" in arresting Glik.

As this was a settlement and not an actual ruling against the police department of Boston, nothing will change as there are no biding orders (that an actual judicial ruling would entail).

The reason why Mr. Glik accepted the settlement offer?

It's been 5 years. The original suit was filed roughly 5 years ago.

It only go this far because Mr. Glik is a lawyer and the ACLU subsidized his costs.

I suspect it was they who advised him to take the settlement offer so as to quit losing money.

If you believe that your rights are protected in this country -- you're so very wrong. Your rights are not rights. They are privileges and they can be revoked at any time by the government of your choosing.

You best play by the rules because even in this country, freedom is mostly an illusion.

Yep. President Santorum will take away your right to privacy, your freedom of religion, and will send the sex police to your bedroom.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.
