Are Atheists addicted to conflict?

RE: Are Atheists addicted to conflict?
I think I've explained in my book, "Every berk is addicted to conflict", that every person has some kind of a disposition to conflicts.

How cynical.

Neither statement is true in principle as far as I can tell.. Not everyone is a dick, although most can be.

Here there are heaps of people who are not dicks apart from me and Min. (we are cunts) Angel

As a group, I think our moderators are very un-dick-like, although some have their moments..

As for consequences: My observation is that a LOT of people on forums "have issues"and fragile egos. This seems to include some of the more aggressive and obnoxious personalities. (although not all of us ) Some seem unable to cope with the robust and colourful tit-for-ta of many forums and are genuinely hurt.

I don't really care about them. I DO care when an un-dick ,such as Summer, gets hurt..

All human interaction has real consequences.

I avoid conflict unless somebody says something extremely stupid. And it has to be an infuriating sort of stupidity.
This is stupid

Indeed, but then I'm easily infuriated. Angel Cloud

That would apply to some forms of theism, but not all. Nihilism applies to all forms of atheism.

Lets see:

Existential nihilism: Nope, I think our lives have intrinsic value, and are more valuable because they're finite and you won't see the like of any of us again after we're gone. We don't have to matter to the universe, we matter to us. Claiming that we only matter because we matter to God is itself nihilism, it's a statement that necessarily implies we have no intrinsic worth.

Moral nihilism: Nope, I'm willing to go out on a limb and take it as axiomatic that what's good for human beings is good and work the rest out from there. It may not be an ultimate grounding, but it's a least as good a grounding as claiming that good is what God says is good.

Epistemological nihilism: Nope, I'm a rational skeptic not an extreme skeptic.

Metaphysical nihilism: Nope, I accept the reality of reality as axiomatic. Doesn't do much good to think otherwise as far as I can see. And can reality really be real if it's contingent on the will of a supreme being?

Political nihislism: Nuh-uh, I think there's such a thing as too much anarchy.

And there's only one form of atheism: not believing in a God, god, or gods. There's only one form of theism, too. A religion being theistic doesn't make it a different form of theism. Theism is believing in at least one God or god. A different form of theism would no longer BE theism.

There are no atheist values because the logical extension of atheism is nihilism. (how's that for seeking conflict)

If atheism causes nihilism how can atheist values (or rather the lack of) be determined by nihilism? That's circular reasoning unless you conflate atheism and nihilism.

Interesting OP. Interesting thread.

I think all you god-forsaken heathens are out to get me! [/sarcasm]

Inserting some seriousness though ... Although Mr. Drake certainly should not have posed his question to include all atheists universally, there maybe be some validity to the thought process behind it. This statement in particular:

Thinking as I read the thread, it would seem he does have a wee point. It doesn't take much to get an over reaction here. I just don't think being atheist has anything to do with it.

How bout it? I guess every one would have to answer that question for themselves. Am I here because I love to discuss or am I here because I love to throw down?

an interesting thread though ...

Aw, I'm pretty sure you were just yanking our chain in the spirit of the thread, so I'll try no to get a swelled head about it.
