First of all, huge kudos to you for not calling yourself African-American. My black/dark-skin friends don't call themselves that either because they find it offensive. They feel that being "african-american" is a way for some people to minimize you as an US citizen ... as if to say, "he's not really FULL american, he's just african-american."

At any rate it's a stupid term and it's no more legitimate than me calling myself European-American. I'm not. I'm an American who happens to have some Irish heritage.

Am I proud to have Irish heritage? Not really ... I don't give a fuck. What good does it do me? If you're the kind of person that judges people even remotely based on their family nationality than you're not someone I want around me anyway. Plus every nationality on the planet has done something thats totally embarrassing to them, so it's not like you can claim you're better in some way than anybody elses nationality (and if you're one of those people, you're a biased dipshit).

I've met some IGNORANT fucking black people ... I've also met some IGNORANT fucking white people ... asian, mexican, indian, turkish .... ignorance is distributed pretty evenly around the world and your nationality does not preclude you from it, regardless of how your racist parents brainwashed you.

Taking pride in one's country is totally fine, but using your bloodline to hold some phoney sense of superiority over someone else (even if they are the EXACT same color as you) is just another form of racism. I don't give a fuck what color you are, or how "pure-bread" you are, or what country you call home .... all I want to know is what kind of human being are you.

thot it'd be funnier to just take a sound byte instead of a complete quote. hahahaha. sorry dude.

yeah, you're right tho Cinjin, the term african-american does minimize and i see why terms like that came about thru the 60s (pride, identity, etc.) and i don't care who still uses them, now. i just think it's not true, personally. the funny thing is, as fucked up a term as afro-american is (and hugely more racially-insensitive, i guess), i can actually relate to that more than african-american because i DID have a big ass afro until 1993.
ROFLOL

i do think heritage is important to know tho.

You have never been to Glasgow.

I have. "Beautiful" is not the first word which springs to mind.Tiger However, parts of Scotland are among the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Around say Loch Lomond. I've also done some stunning train trips and a lot of walking in Scotland when I was backpacking there in 2000.

Scotland is indeed a beautiful country. (I also have friends from Glasgow,so understand Glaswegian reasonably well, although I can't speak it)

I DID have a landlady in a B&B on Skye who sounded a lot like Mrs Doubtfire ("---and hoo would you like your EGG dear?")
