RE: Nationality?
I just call myself an American, but my mom's parents are from Italy and my father's parents are Swedes. Sometimes I refer to myself as a Swedish Meatball, but it's all in good fun.

Passport nationalities...Really, it makes sense for countries like the US, but it's nothing more than simply on "paper".

RE: Nationality?
This is an interesting topic. I have contemplated similar things as well. I have noticed reactions and attitudes like that, and greatly in America. I was born and raised in America, but I have a deep interest in genealogy - or perhaps obsession - and I have come acrossed a good few people here in America, that have reacted oddly to my research; often commenting on how we are American, not something else. In terms of true origin, only the Native Americans are from here, if they want to get technical. I am English, Scots-Irish, French, German, and small traces of Dutch, Welsh, Norman (Norwegian) and Mohawk Native American. This is all important to me, but some people tend to want to disregard heritage and/or ancestry and grasp tightly onto what ever community and civilization they are in; they want to "fit", I suppose. It is quite interesting to observe.

This is where it gets a bit silly. You can respect and be proud of your heritage and be interested in it without saying something rather ridiculous like that.

It is good to know where you came from and it is interesting to find out, but there is no need for labelling yourself like that. Surely it is good enough for you to simply know the nationalities of your ancestors. You don't need to parade around like that.

If you trace it back far enough we all come from Adam and Eve. Suck on that atheists!

Sorry. That was by no means my intention. I just find heritage and cultures interesting. And that was my example of my line. Everyone's heritage is unique and interesting, just like yours' surely would be. I don't personally lable myself anything other than "human being", but we all have roots.

Fair enough. I consider myself Scottish and that is all really. I have looked at my family tree on both sides and my family has been in Scotland for a LONG time. So I don't actually know where down the line that might differ. Not even an Englishman in sight.

Nothing wrong with that. Scotland is a beautiful place. I envy you a bit. =)
