Monotheism

I'm curious as to why all you christians/muslims/whatever believe there is only one god, and why it is important to you.
If it was possible for one god to exist, why couldn't many?  RE: Monotheism

Because it is much more satisfying to little minds driven by ego far above observation to imagine themselves favorite of the sole god. How much ego boost can there be if one is merely the favorite of one god amongst many, and any of the other gods might bear a grudge against your god and therefore spite you more than your own god might like you?

Christians like to apologize it away, but "Thou shalt worship no gods before me" doesn't sound like their god thinks he's alone in the godlyverse.
