We do have a stipulation about making it obvious. However, we still don't want people doing it to be insulting. Of course, as always, we will look at the specific instance. There are a lot of people here who have friendly discourse with each other and can laugh at insulting quote changes. I doubt we would do anything in such cases. In cases where it is unfriendly, we should.

The problem with 'insults' its that they are inevitable, giving the nature of the forums. I can insult someone just by saying "I don't believe in god", but the problem is where to draw the line. IMO if people get paused by some insult thrown in there and changes into "victim mode" is gladly discarded as an honest poster.

Where to draw the line is a lot clearer than you think. Being insulted by something that is not an insult is your problem. People are offended by what I say all the time and even form their opinions of me based on it. It happens to all of us. However, being insulted by an insult is understandable. The instances where a person throws out an unprovoked insult are rather obvious. If that happens in a quote, two rules are being broken and that may be taken into account. Again, the specific instance is always reviewed before action is taken. We won't just see that you changed a quote and bring down the banhammer.
