Jesus ultimatum

RE: Jesus ultimatum
If she had to move back in with her mom to get away from this turkey, who has now "found Jesus" and can't live with her and their children unless they too "accept JESUS", PLUS demanding that her mother do the same thing, SHE DOES NOT NEED THIS CLOWN.

He doesn't have to live with them if he can only live with Christians. He can just pay child support and perhaps spousal support instead.

Even if she doesn't, I think your sister is better off without him. Some people who suddenly "find Jesus" and demand that everyone go along with them "or else" are really nutcases who very quickly go off the deep end into some extremely dangerous areas.

Some of these sudden "conversion experiences" are nothing more or less than psychosis rearing its head. Unchecked, psychosis can become deadly. Religion does nothing except to encourage acting on such psychotic delusions, and dragging others into it (look up "folle a deux"). Religion's coexistence with psychosis is a horrible combination.

RE: Jesus ultimatum
So I very much appreciate all your advice, it has been invaluable for myself, and I won't hesitate to come back to this forum and discuss other topics now that I have recently "come out" as an atheist.

However, I am very sad to report that my sister has already hastily made a decision to stick with her husband although I was trying to reason with her til I was blue in the face, without cursing, yelling or putting her down.
I have learned you cannot always reason with irrational people, they don't see things the way others do.
But now I have another problem. I am really on the fence on whether or not I should sever all ties with my sister and her husband/my best man at my very own wedding, or if I should be a supportive brother even though I know she has done something that I find fundamentally immoral.

Also, my mother is talking to a lawyer about this, it is also illegal what they are trying to do.

You are very welcome mate

I would hazard a guess that she is thinking more of her offspring than anything else. Least of all what is GOOD for her

Nor can you see her perspective mate...it's all good

DON'T. Keep in touch with your sister and her hubby..... it will annoy the hell out of him. And your sister can use the support. I am thinking that this is going to be a short term situation.

As she should..... Don't get mad, Get LEGAL! This will also put pretentious "son-in-law" in his place.

Good Luck mate Heart All my hopes for an equitable outcome.

Love them though you know they be wrong. It is the only sane and compassionate course. (Of course, love can demand some hard choices. Like cutting off relations to influence the other, or letting a child make its own mistakes. Yet it sounds like your will to isolate sister and brother-in-law is controlling in the same sense as his actions. When in doubt, do not act. Time is often a great aid to the ineptness of our petty schemes.)

As human beings we all have instances in our lives where our emotions overrule our brain from making the rational choice, even in the face of overwhelming evidence. I wouldn't give up on trying to get her to see things as they are, however, because you may eventually be able to open her eyes.

And then there's the old standby, "You can't be a force for good if you've removed yourself from the situation." (Though analyzing it in terms ala Sun Tzu gets rather complicated rather fast. I bought two new translations, but in general I haven't spent enough time with Sun Tzu. Actually, one isn't a translation, but a Cleary translation of two generals' commentary on Sun Tzu. If I ever get some free time away from my book clubs and discussion groups.)
