OKAY YOU BRITS, WHAT DID YOU THINK OF....

OKAY YOU BRITS, WHAT DID YOU THINK OF....
Two movies. 1) Iron Lady which shows Margret Thatcher walking around senile, dressed like Edith Bunker talking to her dead husband, still thinking she is prime minister and
2) Creation which is the story of Darwins' life that pretty much ignores his theory, but has him walking around frail and half looney talking to his dead daughter.

I thought they both pretty well sucked, yet they got high praise.

I haven't seen either, but the Thatcher one I don't care if I never see. I remember a poll to find out what should be a fitting tribute for her grave; opinion was divided between a dancefloor and a toilet.

Ok, that bit about the poll might have been a dream.

As for the Darwin one, if it's as bad as you allude (and it wouldn't surprise me) then I think it's a shame.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I haven't seen either, but I would like to because they both look like excellent movies.

I don't know anything at all about Charles Darwin's mental health, so I don't know how accurate a depiction that is of him; but I do know that Maggie has Alzheimer's and does indeed forget when and where she is and forgets that Dennis is dead. Poor thing. Sad

Ironically, Reagan, her American counterpart for so many years, died from the same illness. It's a horrifying disease that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

That is my point. Could you imagine Hollywood making a film about Reagan with him walking around senile, thinking he was president, then interjecting flashbacks in an attempt to show what he did? They would crucify the director.

Yet so many appears to wish upon this country leadership by one suffering from such a disease.

We don't want him. He'd be laughably un-electable by Republicans today. He's way too far to the left, negotiated with both political opponents and international adversaries, cut and ran in Lebanon and raised taxes too many times.

We don't want him. We want the guy that stars in the myth we built around him. Even in death, he's an actor in a work of fiction.

Why? Because it's something to be ashamed of? If a person suffers with Alzheimer's it has a HUGE impact on their life. It's just not right to leave it out like it's some shameful secret.
