The boxing thread
Any other fight fans here?

This place could do with a good boxing thread, so, here it is. I'll start by posting some vids of great fights/favourite fighters.

Here is Lennox my all time favourite, grew up watching him, one of the classiest heavyweights ever.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW0TwWASHlI

Now two vids of different fights, two of the best I've seen:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VI-M9Yw-28

Ofcourse how could I start a boxing thread without the greatest?
Muhammad Ali!

I could post so much more, but I'll leave it at that now.

So feel free to share your thoughts and favourite boxing moments/fighters/fights Big Grin

Sorry Nap, but watching two men beating each to a bloody pulp does not do a damn thing for me.

I don't find it entertaining in the slightest.

^^ [zen takes a dump] hahahahahaha.

i gotta say, i would not have guessed u like boxing, nap.

of course i love the sweet science. i like ricardo mayorga's early fights, he is a showoff (would light up a cigarette in the ring after he knocked someone out) but it was funny, you could tell he was a true fighter.

my favorites are mike tyson and roy jones jr, in that order. i like most of who you put there too, but i can't stand lennox but his skills in his later career finally came around. that fight with oliver mccall when mccall was crying and keeping his arms down and letting lennox hit him and lewis still couldn't knock him out - that made me think he's soft.

about 2:00 is when he stops fighting back 6:00 is when tears start.

Having participated in it myself for a wee while I can say that it is rather exhilarating. When it comes to watching it, it is some of the best entertainment around. Big Grin

Love boxing, but Bob Arum is ruining it, the robbery of Juan Manuel Marquez against Pacquiao was something I thought couldn't be topped, until last night when Pacquiao himself was robbed against Bradley! Totally disgusting! Ricky Hatton and Steve Bunce commentators in UK were speechless. It's ruining boxing these obvious wrong decisions, both fights!

Quite a few family members are fans/boxers so I'm pretty big on it. I used to troll youtube videos ages ago commenting on all the boxing vids arguing about who the greatest was etc. Funny times.

I'm actually not too familiar with mayorga unfortunately, I have ofcourse heard of him, just don't know much about his career. I'll definitely check him out.

As for show off's, Roy Jones jr was a bit of a show off, and ofcourse Sugar Ray. The biggest though was undoubtedly prince Naseem.

Why can't you stand him? I've never understood why Lennox was always hated on by so many, a lot of people don't give him recognition as one of the best ever. Even when he clearly proved it, he beat everyone he fought. Everyone in his division.

As for Mccall. "Still couldn't knock him out". C'mon dude, did it really look like Lennox was going for it? He was just boxing intelligently, winning the points, doing only what he needed to. Clearly something was wrong with Mccall, and I think Lewis knew that, so he obviously wasn't going all out to knock him out. But even if you argue he wasn't, Mccall was a fucking hard man, and one of the top boxers of the time. To call him soft? Why does that make him soft? I'll admit myself, Lennox was sometimes a lazy fighter, sometimes too lethargic. But he was undoubtedly a masterclass boxer and one of the greatest. Somehow though Americans don't seem to want to give him that credit.

I didn't manage to watch the Pac fight I have it on record and will watch it soon. I did hear it was a travesty though.

mayorga is the type that isn't a great fighter because of skills, you can see his technique is sloppy, his best shot to win (and he ko'd vernon forrest twice and won his belt) is if he can piss you off and get you into a fight instead of boxing in the ring. he's awkward and they say he hits like george forman - but for his own weight class of course.

yes, naseem was fuckin cocky! i didn't like it on him, because he was "pretty guy" cocky and not "tough guy" cocky. however he was the train wreck that i can't stop watching, knowing how much i dislike him. lol. good boxer tho.

yeah, lennox is one of the best of those years, but i wouldn't put him in a best ever class at heavyweight. not a chance. yeah, concerning mccall, i like boxers to be finishers and have that killer instinct. as much as i appreciate a nice guy, i'm not sure i always want that in boxing - it IS a pugilist sport afterall. i agree with you tho on a few fronts concerning lennox, he was the tops during his last few years and also that americans don't like him. Big Grin

i think the reason is because he's a panderer. he claims jamaica sometimes, britain sometimes and even heard him claim "the bx" (bronx, nyc). he has to make up his mind who he's fighting for and be just that. and also, he keeps talking about tea and crumpets. hahaha. i'm ok with that because that's what's up where he's from - but again, it's boxing - that's not where i want to hear about that. i'm drinkin, talkin shit when i watch boxing and i like people who get me hype.

just to be clear, i've talked about naseem and lennox bad and i don't want to get the notion that i don't like british boxers. i LOVE watchin ricky hatton. that dude is a tough mother fucker, he is not scared of blood and he has a lot of vices, yet still shows up to fight - overweight or not. haha. i also like micky ward, tho i realize he's irish and not brit.

funny thing is when i lived in miami beach, i was hitting on some girl on the beach. we got to talking about boxing and she told me she liked lennox lewis, and i blew into a tirade about how much of a pussy he is. uh .... (the damn liquor) ... turns out, he was there - the girl was his first cousin! i didn't back off my point, but inside my chest was gettin all hot, thinkin he may come show me how much of a pussy he is! but he didn't .... whew!

It would be cooler if they had rabid badgers everywhere...
Atheism is a non-prophet organisation. - A dusty old book that I found that must be completely true because someone wrote it down.
