Fox Hunting

RE: Fox Hunting
Why is it so much worse than other types of hunting?
Atheism is a non-prophet organisation. - A dusty old book that I found that must be completely true because someone wrote it down.

Come to Oz and you can; feral cats are a huge problem here. Of course some of 'em can get quite big. (the size of an American Bobcat) and will attack you.

A guy I knew used to trap cats which came into his yard. The then sedated them and put them in his freezer. He boasted about it to me;I called him a cruel cunt.

Fox hunting is considered cruel because it uses dogs to chase down AND KILL the prey.

Hunting would seem somewhat pointless if doesn't kill the prey, wouldn't it?

Not at all. Just as many thousands of 'recreational' fishermen practice 'catch and release'.

To have pack of dogs chase, catch and tear an an animal to pieces is barbaric and disgusting in my opinion..

I suspect being chased, caught and torn apart would not be an unusual fate for a small fox like animal in a healthy ecosystem without any human hunters.

Also, foxes are predators, and predator to prey ratio amongst mammals being what it naturally is, every fox chased, caught and torn apart by dogs is literally scores of other wild small, furry critters not chased, caught and torn apart by the fox.

Catch and release seems to be more of a way to appear to still have the cake after eating it too, since the hook injury and long struggle to escape probably means most of the released fishes are almost as good as dead.

RE: Fox Hunting
Arguments on grounds of cruelty are invalid as they fail to consider the natural state of the fox. Furthermore, if the actions done to said fox are the same between natural and human-interacted states, then emotional appeals are faulty as said actions are neither unusual nor unexpected.

The only thing one can argue is that because a human is involved, then it is verboten. However, that fails to answer the question as to what makes humans rather different that necessitates a special case.

What about you?

One of my old, old exs was called Naomi Fox. Is that what you mean? Because I'm totally ok with you hunting her down with rabid dogs.
Shit, take her head as a trophy. I'll provide the plaque.

Strawman.

My response was to your logical fallacy.IE that because nature is cruel,it's OK for us to be cruel. (look up"tu quoque")

You would have been on more solid ground had you begun by attacking MY logical fallacy; the charge of cruelty is a subjective value judgment. I was guilty of special pleading, but was not aware at the time.. So yes,my objection is emotional, not rational.

In essence you are right and I was wrong.
