Jesus is not original

RE: Jesus is not original
From the same source on but this on Mithras

• He was born out of a solid rock and not from any woman.
• He battled first with the sun and then a primeval bull, thought to be the first act of creation. Mithras killed the bull, which then became the ground of life for the human race.
• Mithras birth was celebrated on December 25, along with Winter solstice.
• There is no mention of him as being a great teacher.
• There is no mention of Mithras having 12 disciples. The idea that Mithras had 12 disciples may have come from a mural in which Mithras is surrounded by twelve signs of the Zodiac.
• Mithras had no bodily resurrection. The myth is told that Mithras completed his earthly mission then was taken to paradise in a chariot, alive and well. The early Christian writer Tertullian did write about Mithras believers re-enacting resurrection scenes, but he wrote about this occurring well after New Testament times, so if any copycatting was done, it was the cult of Mithras copying from Christianity.

Here is a more detailed deconstruction of the Jesus/Mirtha comparison.

Well done Drich, well done.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

In fairness, GC, there were atheists who pointed out the tenuous links before Drich opened his mouth, so to speak. Don't they deserve a well done?

Of course, jesus is still horseshit.

If anything....Mithras is even a little more believable...although not by much.

This is one of the many reasons I can't stand watching Bill Maher. I remember him making some nonsense claim about the Jesus story basically being adopted wholesale from a myth that had been floating around the Mediterranean long before Christianity. It only took a brief amount of research on my part to see that was incorrect.

Quote:If Jesus was totally unlike any previous mythology, so what again?

Yes, so what, except he wasn't. Christianity brought no new ideas,in its moral code, theology or broad mythology. Christianity [as invented mainly by Saul) is very much a religion of its place and time. Part of its appeal was its familiarity.
Contrary to Christian myth,Christianity did NOT spread rapidly until after it had become the state religion under Theodosius in 380 ce.. Had that not occurred, there is little doubt Christianity would have faded into a well deserved oblivion, sharing the fate of most ancient religions, many with far more followers.

Think how much better the world would have been if that thug, Constantine, had not won the Battle of the Milvian Bridge.

I love how GC pats his pal on the back for discussing a few areas in which Mithras and jeebus may be different. Let me furnish a similar exegesis. Mine will start with the differences between frozen yogurt and ice cream.

Frozen yogurt is not made only from cream.
Frozen yogurt has yogurt in it.
Frozen yogurt may be tangy.
Frozen yogurt says very clearly that it is frozen.

The similarities? Duh.

Duh, and you guys do not do the same, yes you do, even if the statements are not true. It seems that most of the stuff about Mithras came after Christ.
