Hello all. \m/
Hey guys, what's happening? I'm new here, as you might have guessed. I'm 18 years old, and have been a religious skeptic since I was roughly 12. When I was 16 I had a bit of a pantheistic moment (even though I didn't know it at the time) which has been a part of my worldview ever since. For the past couple of years I've been reading up tons and tons on different philosophies, ancient mythologies, and world religions (this searching around is how I landed on pantheism).

Yeah...so other than that, I'm a musician, poet, martial artist, and also an avid metalhead. Devil tee hee.

Looking forward to some great discussions!

Hello and welcome to AF! ^_^
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Pantheism just seems like some wishy washy form of atheism in which people are still clinging on to the idea of god. To me at least.

Wait, or was that deism? Hmm, maybe both...

Welcome anyways. Big Grin

Nope. Not for me anyways. Pantheism can mean several different things, but the one thing that ties it together is a reverence for nature. Some theistic pantheists say that god is equivalent to the universe, while atheistic or "natural" pantheists simply say that nature as it is, without a controlling conscious force, is a marvel to behold.

There are probably quite a few atheists who lean towards a pantheistic worldview without even realizing it.
Now, that the flow is stalled,
The breath is held, the framework built,
Do the clock's hands fly, or remain still?

Or then there are the atheists who were pantheistic until they pulled their heads out their asses (me for instance) Wink

I hate to burst your bubble right off the start. People have a tendency when they see inconsistencies in religious labels to "seek" something out just in order to claim something to be different.

If science is the reality and nature is the reality then slapping "pantheism" onto that is extra baggage you don't need. Having a "sense of awe" about nature is fine. Attaching a personal predilection to nature is superfluous.

The universe is a thing, an outcome of conditions of scientific law, and randomness, nothing more.

"Pantheism" is merely a pet thought people have and like. It has no scientific basis. It is merely new age woo. Now, I do know of one deconvert on another website who is now a flat out atheist who was a pantheist.

Please understand, I am not trying to be mean just to be a dick. I simply like to be honest with the person I am addressing from the start without the dance. I don't give people a pass simply because they are in a minority or don't believe in the standard religions. I don't even always agree with other atheists and many here can attest to that.

Out side my criticism here, welcome. Just be brave enough to understand I can like you the person, without liking everything you might claim.

But outside this issue. I love the older Metallica, "Seek and Destroy" And the entire "And Justice For All" album. I also liked the S&M album when they played with the San Fransisco symphony .
