And when the hell did Christians become opposed to vegetarianism?

A lot of Adventists are vegetarians. It's about promoting a feeling of 'specialness and group adhesion. Weird dietary rules are common in sects and smaller religions; The Jews have theirs,as do the Muslims (a small sect initially) Of course the Mormons have a range of things they will not ingest.EG: alcohol*, tobacco,tea,coffee, or caffeine in other beverages.



*Yes, Alcoholics Anonymous is active in Salt Lake City.

I never thought of it that way. Thinking
I'm always getting the old "God put animals on this earth for us to eat". I kinda figured that was why vegetarianism was on the list. Hehe
