You don't like the feeling it gets knowing they are raping children so you try to pass that off on atheists? Shame on you, you fucking cretin. That was seriously and awfully low. Child abuse is not a way to push your fucking agenda. I care about every single abuse that children suffer in every walk of life. There just happens to be an awful lot of Catholics doing it. If there were a way to bleach your brain and start over, I would really suggest it for you. So hung up on your fucking fairy tales that you would use the plight of children to insult people who have nothing to do with Catholicism's many shortcomings? Well, there's a lot of words there. I don't see anything that factually disputes what Lion said re: the prevalence of atheism among the clergy. It seems like it could be important to get that right; if it were true that the overwhelming majority of abusive priests were actually atheist at the time of the abuse, wouldn't that impact how the church should act to prevent further abuse? And likewise, if it were true that the overwhelming majority of abusive priests were faithful Catholics at the time of the abuse, that would also impact how the church should act to prevent further abuse. You say that there are "an awful lot of Catholics" responsible for abuse. Do you mean an awful lot as a proportion of Catholics--that is, the probability of x being an abuser given that x is Catholic is high--or that an awful lot of abusers are Catholic--that is, the probability of x being Catholic given that x is an abuser is high? I suspect you mean the latter. Do you have any statistics regarding the prevalence of Catholicism among the general population of child-abusers? “The truth of our faith becomes a matter of ridicule among the infidels if any Catholic, not gifted with the necessary scientific learning, presents as dogma what scientific scrutiny shows to be false.”
Actually Clive, it wouldn't matter either way. Atheist or theist, there's really only one thing to do, and they didn't do it (case in point, they went the opposite direction on that one).

"There's really only one thing to do" <- This is given no scope. There's only one thing to do ever? There's only one thing to do in response to a given number of abuse reports? There's only one thing to do when one has the opportunity to abuse a child? Who is the "they" who didn't "do it"? The abusive priests, who failed to do the right thing (not abusing children)? The church, who failed to get justice for the abused children and to act responsibly to prevent further abuse? “The truth of our faith becomes a matter of ridicule among the infidels if any Catholic, not gifted with the necessary scientific learning, presents as dogma what scientific scrutiny shows to be false.”

Sure, report away. It's not as though we get this same song and dance -every fucking time-. The mods will do what mods do. In fact, I think you're encouraged to report posts when you feel a rule has been broken.

Rhythm is right. Catholic Church is responsible no matter how you slice it. I'm not going to waste time playing your pick at it so I can feel good about my god game.
I think this post needs to be BUMPed for the record. There is absolutely no link made between homosexuality and the ''P'' word.

Oh, yes, absolutely. You should report it, as it clearly violates the rules you didn't bother to read.
I have a question regarding the (lack of) connection between homosexuality and pedophilia.
It seems that some members here are inferring from the rate of Catholicism among child abusers--or the rate of child abuse among Catholics, or both--that there is a link between Catholicism and child abuse. It stands to reason, then, that they would also infer from the rate of homosexuality among child abusers--or the rate of child abuse among homosexuals, or both--that there is a link between homosexuality and child abuse. Note: I shouldn't even have to say this, because everyone here is an adult that is capable of reading English, but I am not claiming that there is a link between homosexuality and child abuse/pedophilia. I am trying to figure out under what conditions the people here are willing to draw a particular inference regarding a particular population. “The truth of our faith becomes a matter of ridicule among the infidels if any Catholic, not gifted with the necessary scientific learning, presents as dogma what scientific scrutiny shows to be false.”
