I'll admit, it took me a while to get the joke, but that's probably because in the UK we don't have a history of lynching black people. I found it somewhat amusing; but then I have a dark sense of humour.

I would be the last person to restrict what should or should not be laughed at, but noticing what people find funny is a very good way of assessing them.

I found the whole thing very distasteful. As if lynching a man who didn't happen to be born the same skin-shade as you is a perfectly acceptable activity. I'm not completely opposed to racists jokes when they're done in the right forum and tossed about equally. Many stand up comedians are able to pull it off flawlessly, but this just feels like Padraic said ... a dirty American cracker spewing forth his venomous hate.

It seems like a joke where you have to be racist enough yourself in order to get it. Because it honestly went straight over my head, wasn't until Tib pointed it out that I realised. Even then, it didn't even make me smirk.
