I knew I was going to regret clicking on this thread.

In many ways America is fantastic, especially their whole scientific community which I love, however, sometimes I can't help but see a parallel with many third world countries Sad

Agreed. Many brilliant minds come from/work in the US, but damn, you have got shitloads of loonies over there..

Actually, I don't see why you guys think this is so bad, Given the amount of onus there is in the USA to have to profess faith, it is actually surprising so many don't just go along with the imposed culture. We get enough Americans on this forum with testaments of how they cannot openly say they are atheist, should be all the evidence we need. On the other hand the jibes of stupidity directed against the USA could in the light of above lead to the question why do 30% of brits say they have daft veiws? Partly if they are anything like me they will say anything to get away from a polster, and partly they are stupid, but without the excuse of cultural conformity that an American could use.

True. Few jokes you can make up are as funny as a list of actual quotes from G.W. Bush. And he was elected by enough of us .. twice. So not surprisingly, smart is regarded as elitist and at least a little suspicious in these parts.

Well, let's assume that this poll is a decent indicator of the overall population by way of averages (an amusing and most likely incorrect assumption..but for fun...) then:

Let's grab some numbers.

Canada: pop. 34,482,779
US: pop. 311,591,917
UK: pop. 62,641,000

So.....on to the fun bit.

"Human Beings evolved etc etc etc..."

Canada: 21,034,495
US: 109,057,170
UK: 42,595,880

Well, well, roughly 5 times as many Americans managed to pay attention in highschool biology as Canadians, and twice as many as our very special friends across the Atlantic. The flipside being that we have a vastly larger number of people who didn't. Nevertheless, I hereby propose that the US is better educated on the subject than either Canada or the UK by brute force of sheer numbers....Angel
