Another Pointless Poll - Who would you vote for U.S. president?

RE: Another Pointless Poll - Who would you vote for U.S. president?
Damn I forgot at first to vote or to say who I would vote for. After due consideration I've come to the conclusion that I will vote for Obama .. and not just because he isn't a neocon, a moron, a shill for the 1% or a Mormon. No I'll be voting for Obama because I think he can deliver the most progressive good in these dark times.

Here in the land of the wee brained folk, where less than 1% have their heel on our throats and around 50% have drunk their kool aid and become convinced that that is a good thing, we shouldn't expect to have a completely rational, progressive government. Someday perhaps we'll be ready for a "liberal spring" when we can shed our 3rd world health system, our delusions of American exceptionalism and compulsion to fund the world's primary police force. But today isn't that day.

All we can do is take a step. Voting for the guy who will do what can be done rather than the guy who would certainly veto even that much, is a start.

That's what people thought here too. The last election ended with a hung parliament (neither side could form government) . The Labor party did a deal with the Greens (for whom I voted) and the independents and formed government. Not sure if that's possible under the US system.

"Protests votes" have a long history here, which was the purpose of me voting Green. I once voted for the tiny "Nuclear Disarmament Party". The bloke I voted for got in,which scared the crap out of the government and led to some policy changes. The leader of that party later sold out and was absorbed into the Labor party. His name is Peter Garrett, erstwhile front man for the top band, "Midnight Oil". Coincidentally Peter is also a chronic "big C" Christian. (a lot of noise but no music)
