Feminism? What?

Am I the only fucker getting sick of hearing about this atheism+ bullshit?

I don't know what's going on with it. I've heard of feminism getting thrown into the middle of the atheist world with the whole Rebecca Watson incident. As for that, I don't know what to make of it. I know people can be assholes over the internet and I know feminists tend to pull off hyperbole more often than I'd like. I really don't know what side to take on this, but it's frustrating to see this kind of division going on in our own community when we have real opposition by real people who really hate us and really want us gone.

I mean I'm not a fan of Atheism+ and for all I know that may well be the reason but you can't make a claim like that without something to back it up.

It's known as the men's rights movement. Some of them are sexists, just as some feminists are sexist, but the majority are pretty level-headed and more egalitarian in my experience. Most are concerned with things like the definition of rape (most laws state it as a crime that can only be committed by a man), paternal rights in things like abortion and custody, and of course the perceived "guilty until proven innocent" attitude of courts when women accuse men of rape (resulting in ruined lives for a lot of falsely convicted men).

Agree with you, Tiberius. However, I've seen way too many feminists who paint anyone who takes the title 'men's rights activists' or MRA, as automatically misogynist. This seems to be especially bad on free thought blogs. I've met one of the girls who blogs there on another forum where 'MRA' is pretty synonymous with 'nazi.' It makes it especially difficult to discuss gender inequality when the issues that effect me the most tend to be over looked feminism and dealt with by the men involved with gender politics.

I'm familiar with her, but she's a bit angrier than my tastes go. I prefer places like the good men project here or the video I found on men's studies in an academic environment. Feminism generally has good tools and strategies for dealing with stereotypical gender roles, but those tools also need to be used for the guys for them to be effective.
