You are deluding yourself. Slavery was an example of how much bullshit you have scraped under the rug in an effort to continue that delusion. I gave several other examples, too.
The "good old days" were "old"...not necessarily "good." Now, here is some more bad news. There is no going back to the old days. This is not the same country that it was in 1820. I suggest that you read some actual history because it is clear that you do not know what the hell you are talking about.

If only they could force through a single-payer system, give it 50 years, then debate taking it away.
Let's see the poll numbers after a full generation of universal healthcare. It sounds lame, but a lot of people really don't know what they're missing.

The problem with Republicans is that they would love their single-payer plan in 50 years and STILL deny the government is running it. Being a Republican means "Just Say "No."

I'm not rich, I'm sure you aren't, and I am willing to bet that you have never had to have an operation or seek treatment in a roach infested office and have never been given a shot with a dirty needle. I've always gotten the same type of health care as every other American...that would be the best possible. How can anyone say only the rich get treated in this country. No one is denied medical services based on inability to pay. I'm obviously against a full on government ran healthcare system and I don't care about my medicare that I might get if I get old enough. I'm not even thinking it will even be available so my option is a savings plan to help fund my retirement. Not all of us anti public healthcare people are right wing nut jobs that are rich.
As for the racist subject I NEVER was talking about bringing slavery back. I'm not continuing the racist discussion or the slavery discussion any longer. Complain about it all you want and try to make Americans feel sorry for the actions of past southern inbred rednecks all you want but it doesn't work on me. We are tired of it and we are tired of the NAACP wearing it out over and over again. Go join the NAACP and stir up some trouble with someone else. I'm over this conversation.

Several of my close friends have what i think to be desperate need of health care... yet they don't have it, and i note that all of the ones who need it (other than me, but that's an age/guardianship restriction) are 2-3 paychecks before they live on the street kind of poor.
That to me seems like a probable link, and with their statements of the same: i think it a true problem (at least in AK, USA). Our government, while not the best, is a lot better than most. You can very 37th in two ways: either that we are the 37th best, or that we are a good hundred (about 150 i would think) places away from the worst. And with Obama's health care reform: we would likely be bumped up to between the best and the 10th best.

Depends on what you consider the best. Waiting for months for an operation that I could get in a week or two isn't good to me. The only place that will deny you services based on inability to pay is if you go see a private doctor. If you walk into an emergency room they can not send you away. Not in my state anyway. We have signs all over the place in hospitals and some clinics that tell patients they by law are required to give them treatment regardless. There is no way people can say we are doing poorly as a country when it comes to medical health. Yeah we are really fat and that's causing medical problems but that's a personal issue and people have to correct that on their own. All kids get free immunizations if their parents can afford them. Health clinics give out birth control pills and pap smears based on income to patients with no insurance. Most doctors cut their prices for people who have no insurance if you pay for it at once out of pocket that day. No one is going around with typhoid fever or any of those other diseases that are rampant in third world countries.

Free and 'can afford' are not synonyms. Slashed prices is not free.
~110 Alaskans a week are losing their health insurance coverage. According to: http://acpp.info/category/public-health-policy/ and newspapers from a short while back. Without health insurance (or the ability to pay for the operation), doctors need do only the minimum required to alleviate the problem. They don't have to fix it completely, they just have to make it non-life threatening and not hurt as much. Also, if you can pay for it, you almost always have to (which people living 2-3 paychecks till homelessness can't well afford to do)
See the problem? This is an ultra-conservative, primarily christian population. ~64% think Alaska should have a death penalty (AK does not currently have one). 70% think that House bill 35, requiring parental notice and consent for a minor's abortion, should be passed.
I have such newspaper polls (w/comments) saved, and i have correctly written on them both 'This idiocy cannot be accepted.' : \ Alaska voted mostly favoring Bush in 2000 and 2004, and voted Mccain and Pailin (who most of them should have already known was a complete moron) in 2008. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/...vs_mccain/ good showing of it.
Back on topic though, i repeat that we are not the best, but we are in no way the worst.

No one said you wanted to bring back slavery. Quite the opposite, you don't seem to have any knowledge that it ever existed as part of our "good old government" that you pine for.
