AS far as I'm aware,private health treatment remains available in countries with universal health care. It's the case here and I'm pretty sure also in the UK. (ever heard of Harley St?) The wealthy notice no change.

Not here in Sweden. Which I think is good, I don't see the point with privatizing a public service like that.

I'm so sick of anti-universal health care commercials and complete idiots using the same tired story of Waiting periods and not being able to choose their own doctors etc. etc.

We can barely choose our own doctors today and still have to wait for anything to be done. At least with the Universal Care option we wont have to hand over our first born and house.......

You are so right. My son lost his psychiatrist because he is no longer a preferred provider with CIGNA. If I want to continue to see him there is a $3600.00 deductible per year and I'm only allowed 20 visits a year. The office visit is $125.00per hour without insurance. Lets do the math $125.00x20=$2500.00. They have it set up so you can never meet your deductible so they never have to pay. Now I have to search for a preferred provider and start all over again. I have one thing to say about that. Shit.

Binny, that is so freaking true on the the setting up of deductibles. It's juuuuuuussstttt enough to where the 80/20 or 90/10 or if you pay a little more 100 doesn't kick in unless it's met. However, it's almost impossible unless you're a hypochondriac that takes themselves and the whole family for a weekly visit like a trip to the zoo.

Funny......I hear arguments from the Insurance company's talk about people who are hypochondriacs messing it up for everyone. Not realizing, or just not giving a shit, the system is pretty much setup to force you into being one... Truly sad...

Sounds like a terrific system.From what I can gather,Sweden has one of the most civilised welfare systems in the world----supported by very high taxes. ( I have no problems with high taxes if the system is effective and the government reasonably honest)

Here you have a choice of both.

Older people here have private health insurance if they possibly can AS WELL as public coverage.This because there is usually a waiting list of up to THREE YEARS for 'elective' (non emergency) surgery. EG a hip replacement. Last year I needed some plumbing work done.Public hospital; a 2 year wait.I have private insurance (the cost of which the government subisdised by 30%) I had the operation within a week of seeing the specialist.

It's funny to see how backwards the US are some times, they lead the shining example in some cases yet they still don't have healthcare.

What amazes me most, is the hypocrisy of it all. When Bush was in charge people protested, and sure, some got of hand, but in general it was legal protesting. The far right complained that we were unpatriotic. (Ughh e_e)

Now, they've been out of power for only 7 months and they're losing their shit. These protests aren't peaceful, they're basically trying to get into a yelling match with our representatives and scare them into voting down any healthcare reform. What's even more horrendous is how they show pictures of Obama with swastikas. It's really appalling.

Keith Olbermann did a special comment and got right to the heart of the matter. The underlying factor in the people who think this healthcare system is a way to kill of seniors, that Obama is a Kenyan, Obama is a socialist, Obama is hitler...it's really truly racism. There are people that cannot tolerate, under any circumstances, a black president.

Fun fact, the people against healthcare reform and think it's a secret plan to kill seniors and the disabled tried to say that if Stephen Hawking was subject to UK's healthcare, he'd be dead already despite his intelligence.
