kindle fire hd versus nexus 7

So I’m considering getting a tablet. An iPad is out because they cost more than I want to spend. Right now I’m looking at either a Nexus 7 or the Kindle Fire HD. The Kindle is cheaper, has better sound and a HDMI port. The Nexus 7 has a GPS and is generally more app friendly. Or so I’ve heard…

Anybody had a chance to either or both? What did you think?

I have a Nexus 7. Its pretty sweet. I passed on the Kindle because it locks you in to the Amazon app store. I liked the Nexus quad core CPU and as its a Google flagship product, it'll be first in line for updates.

If the feature differences don't matter to you either is a good choice.

Right now the only thing stopping me from buying the Nexus is the HDMI port on the Kindle. I'd like the the option of hooking to the TV. BUT, since there's not much I can do there that I can't already do with the DVD player I'm leaning Nexus. Just soliciting inputs....

That's 1 for the Nexus.

Yeah, lack of HDMI wasn't a liability for me, I already have enough doodads to connect to the TV.
