Just doing some math

Just doing some math
So a lot of controversy has arisen over Romney's statement that he would cut funding to PBS. I actually don't think that PBS needs any government funding, but that's besides the point that I want to make.

The Budget for PBS is $455,000,000. The Budget for the United States Military is $711,000,000,000. Now if you divide the budget of the military by the budget of PBS, you find out that the cost is .00063 that of the military.

Further extrapolating, 365 days in a year, times 24 hours is 8760 hours in a year. So if you multiply .00063 by the number of hours in a year you find out that the cost of PBS is equal to 5.5118 hours of military spending.

That's five and a half hours of military spending for a whole year of PBS. If we are looking for a first and obvious place to cut a whole lot of spending, we found one.

A few other points of comparison. One year of PBS funding (at $455M/year) is equal to:

- Not even half of a B-2 bomber (~1B/each in 2012 dollars)
- 3 F-22 Raptors (~150M/each)
- A little more than 1/14th of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier (6.3B in 2006)

Hey Romney - I've got a better idea. How about we fucking bomb fewer people instead?

But we can't cut military funding!! We'd be in danger!!! We would only have a military capable of taking on the next 10 largest militaries simultaneously rather than the next 16!!!

If we train Big Bird and arm him, can we file the PBS budget under military spending?

Europe should finaly start to engage in a more agressive foreign policie, instead of watching massacres and then bitching about "us world police", then you could cut your military spending.

Well Europe should take care of their own problems, that is certainly part of the issue, although I think a very small part of it.

If it wouldn`t have been for the Clinton administration Milosovice would have massacred the population of Kososvo.
If it weren`t for the US troops stationed there the entire region would go up in flames again.
We just watched, literaly, the dutch lieutnant Thomas Karremans, simply watched as serb nationalists comited the worst massacre on european soil since ww2 in srebrenica.

there are currently 146 US military instalations in Europe which probably costs you billions and is an imbarresment to us since it seems like we couldn`t defend our selves nor intervene during a crisis.
