Quote:I don't care what the consumers want. What they want to see, largely, is irrelevant Adult film producers, on the other hand, only care about what consumers want. What you care or don't care about is irrelevant for them. Quote:What I'm more concerned about is this. Maybe, instead on focusing on porn, we should teach safe sex to the adolescent (instead of ill-advised "abstinence" programs).
Private schools in Australia typically teach both. But a couple of sex-ed classes can't compete with the ability to influence kids if they're watching porn regularly can it now? So if it's important that schools teach them then it's also important that porn teaches them.

Quote:Private schools in Australia typically teach both It's a waste of time. Teaching absistence is counterproductive. Safe sex is enough. Quote:But a couple of sex-ed classes can't compete with the ability to influence kids if they're watching porn regularly can it now? That's why we have persons called "parents". Quote:So if it's important that schools teach them then it's also important that porn teaches them. And it's also important that movies teach us that one lonely cop can't stop terrorists with his wits and a mere handgun. Let's ban Die Hard. Adult movies are made for entertainment, not for for education. If a person can't understand the difference between fantasy and reality you can't fault the movie producers for that. Justin Bieber??
Fuck; this god really hates us!
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Belief is part of a mechanism. Understand the mechanism and you may understand belief. You are letting your psychology and epistemology be driven by aesthetic concerns and first principles that are largely immaterial to them. A recent book I half read asked why we fail? Why, despite being equipped with the ability to know good from evil, and the consequences of choosing each, do we often choose the worse? Why when we know what we want, do we do the reverse? Why do we yield to temptation, knowing the consequences? In short, why do we fail? When you can answer that question, maybe you'll be worth listening to. In the meantime, I'm going back to sleep. I should think the incidence of adultery, divorce, rape, murder, greed, and many other things just amongst Christian populations should exemplify this. I would say it's less about general stupidity and more about a lack of examination of their core values and the ones they profess to have. Some STD's have non-symptom bearing versions and I would guess that even if you get Quote:On your second point - since when do consumers get to decide what risks and hazards reside in the workplace ("manufacturing plant" if you prefer)? If I want to buy a brand new safe packed with asbestos because it produces the best product, does that mean those that make it have to be put at risk because I want asbestos in it? Wouldn't worry me, I'd be at no risk from it being sealed inside the walls of the finished product... This is a better point, but the consumers and advocacy groups and the workers would all have to band together to get things done. The producers want consumer's money. The consumers are happy to give it to them without condoms. More factors have to come together to prove to producers that revenue won't be lost by the change - whether that's from law or from advocacy and consumption change. It's been like this since people were buying and selling things. This also means the workers themselves have to stand up for their safety rights. While they may know it's dangerous, they may also judge the risk to be minimized or inaccurately assess the statistics. That's an important factor you're missing in all of this. It's dangerous to walk out into a thunderstorm, especially if I'm the tallest thing in the field, but that doesn't automatically mean I'm going to get hit by lighting. I might consider the risk factor negligible in comparison to, I don't know, making a paycheck. I was going to grab a few more of your points, but I think you should read the books Denialism and Merchants of Doubt to get a better understanding of the situation in regards to how people (rationally or no) assess what's dangerous vs what they want or should do.
People know that in order to die, one has to be alive first. Should we ban births?
