Atheism and the scouts...

RE: Atheism and the scouts...
I was in the scouts for a number of years, the whole religious thing did not bother me then I did it half heartedly, It was something to do. Looking back it would have been nice to have an atheist version (I was never a fan of ding the churchy bits and I tried my best to avoid when possible). Back then I did not know what an atheist was, then the internet came and that's where my hatred for religion started. I love the religious, I hate the religion.
"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful" - Edward Gibbon (Offen misattributed to Lucius Annaeus Seneca or Seneca the Younger) (Thanks to apophenia for the correction)
'I am driven by two main philosophies:
Know more about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you' - Neil deGrasse Tyson
"Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." - Mark Twain

If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71.

RE: Atheism and the scouts...
Where I live boy scouts clubs differ very much. Mine was non-religious, I never heard anything about god. Looking back, I've met some of the weirdest people of my life there......which is great. But than I turned 16 or so and couldn't represent on saturdaymorning due to heavy drinking and all. Still, great memories and allthough I never tied a knot I know how to sail a small boat.
