leo-rcc,
Well said, I'm glad you brought that up. I believe most Americans today, and especially during the war, were sold a load of patriotic garbage about beating fascism. Then from fascism we focused on communism. Then from communism it became Muslim extremists. The point being, Macarthur was right; the US government loves keeping its citizens in a perpetual state of fear. It is hard for me to see the US as some boy scout of the world. It is much more believeable to see her as motivated by economic reasons, rather than humanitarian.

Quote:Just a side note, the US did not enter WW2 because of concentration camps. They were aware such places existed, but the Nazi's only show Theresienstadt as an example model camp, putting both the Red Cross and the leaders of various nations mind at ease.
Only after the real horrible examples of concentration camps were found the true extent of the horror became known, and that wasn't until the last year of the war.
The model camp of Theresienstadt was intended to fool people. The degree of its success is arguable. The allied governments were aware of the camps probably as early as 1942,certainly in 1943. I think people tend to overlook,or are simply unaware that there were Fifteen THOUSAND camps set up by the Nazis ,spread all over Europe, not just the half a dozen or so of which most people have heard about.
The US went to war with Japan because Japan attacked The US on December 7 1941. It went to war with Germany only because Germany (and Italy) declared war on the US on December 11 1941. The rest of Europe,The British Commonwealth countries (UK, Canada,South Africa,India, Australia and New Zealand to name the main ones) had been at war since 1939. Until that time the US had a firm isolationist policy. (as it had in WW 1,which it did not enter for FOUR YEARS) Had not the US been attacked, it's likely it would not have become directly involved in WW2.
Some references:
Quote:The Abandonment of the Jews alleges that British and American political leaders during the Holocaust, including President Roosevelt, turned down proposals that could have saved hundreds of thousands of European Jews from death in German concentration camps; for example, by refusing asylum to Jewish refugees and by failing to order the bombing of railway lines leading to Auschwitz.
Wyman examines the documents suggesting that the U.S. and British governments turned down numerous proposals to accept European Jews. The issue was raised at a White House conference on March 27, 1943 of top American and British wartime leaders, including President Roosevelt, U.S. Secretary of State Cordell Hull, British Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden, presidential advisor Harry Hopkins, and the British Ambassador to Washington, Lord Halifax. Hull raised the question of having the Allies offer to accept 60,000 to 70,000 Jews from Bulgaria, a German ally.
Wyman writes that, because of a combination of anti-Semitism and an unwillingness to act on any proposal not of direct strategic value, thousands and possibly million of Jews died who might otherwise have been saved.

The infamous propaganda film of Therienstadt was made in 1944 by a famous German Jewish actor/director,KURT GERON. He was then sent to Auschwitz along with his family and most of the participants of the film. They were gassed on arrival.

An idea which far predates the U.S.

It looks like the Sumerians established the tradition as soon as the Anunaki had turned their backs. Ermm, I mean: had retreated into the heavens.

It never fails to amaze how how cruel and awful the Nazi regime was.
And to think, people are comparing President Obama trying to pass a healthcare bill to the establishment who pulled this shit.
Fuck.

They are merely racists, Meatball. When they talk about "wanting their country back" they are not talking about "health care." They want a dumb old white man back in charge.

Just so. Have you seen the documentary on Kurt Gerron? It's excellent.

The regime that orchestrated 9/11 and its consequences is an even match, Meatball.
And so is the greed and stupidity that killed 5 million in the Congo, in the nineties. And still on-going. But you probably don't even know about that one.
