It's probably easier for someone in my position, from where being a believer is more the exception than the rule. Actually I can't help feeling a little guilty for that when I hear about people who are surrounded by this stuff, or who may even be in fear for their life in extreme cases. That's why places like this are such an important resource, because sometimes it might be the only escape a person has.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I know of one person who started out as a particularly strident and devout creationist-type xtian on another (sadly extinct) forum, who over time and with encouragement became less and less sure of his beliefs; to the point when he suddenly announced he had lost faith in them completely and became one of our more outspoken atheist members. I still keep in touch occasionally via Facebook, he's doing very well for himself. So places like this can be beneficial in ways you might not even suspect.
