Do you think he, in turn, would believe in a god that created him and rules his universe? He might believe in creator god king like Ra or something. I wouldn't mind a universe with lots of gods. It's just having one that I don't like - there needs to be a balance of power. And I know, there's Satan, but Satan's powers aren't really comparable to God's.

If you believe it, question it. If you question it, get an answer. If you have an answer, does that answer satisfy reality? Does it satisfy you? Probably not. For no one else will agree with you, not really.
Belief vs knowledge
Belief is without knowledge. Knowledge is certainty, not belief. (February 18, 2013 at 2:49 pm)fr0d0 Wrote: Belief vs knowledge And this is relevant to the conversation how? Belief can be with or without knowledge. Belief with knowledge is rational belief. Belief without knowledge is faith and, by definition, irrational. But you have made at least one good point. Evolution has been proven with voluminous evidence, time and time again from widely diparate avenues of inquiry yet many people still choose not to believe it is true. So you are right, knowledge =/= belief.

Relevant because you didn't specify.
Rational belief is something you have worked out. If you know without thinking then how can that be rational?? Belief with faith has to be rational, because it can be nothing else. Are those rational conclusions valid... is down to the individual and their cognitive abilities. (February 18, 2013 at 4:00 pm)fr0d0 Wrote: Relevant because you didn't specify. I would argue that the vast majority of xtians have engaged in little or no rational thought regarding their faith. They simply parrot what has been told to them. This constitutes blind faith. Faith without reflection of knowledge. Irrational belief.

So, leaving out the lowest common denominator, how can you rationally justify disbelief in evolution while at the same time having enough belief to do things like drive your car or post messages to an electronic board via your computer? Theists on this board get called out for cherry-picking from the bible all the time. It seems they like to cherry-pick science as well. "If it supports or benefits me or my belief, it is fact."

Why do you say that I don't agree with evolution? Or disagree with any scientific consensus? I don't.
I might disagree with what's fashionable and prefer to find our what's true rather than what's pushed on me. We're still at the lowest common denominator I fear |
