Before the universe entered into its current state of being, there was nothingness. Don't try to imagine nothingness, because merely attempting to conceive of nothingness is to give it form, just try not to think about it. But then, a light erupted into the universe, a white light that stirred the universe into being. Planets, stars, systems, galaxies, black holes, everything began to blossom, as did life across the cosmos.
As this life began to evolve, certain individuals developed the first feelings. The first being to will itself to move became Ion, the entity of Will. The first being to fear for itself became Parallax, entity of Fear. The first being to feel rage became the Butcher, the first to feel compassion became Proselyte, to feel hope became Adara, the first to feel avarice became Ophidian, and the first to experience love became the Predator.
Centuries later, on the planet Maltus, a race of beings evolved to the point of immortality, and devoted their lives to the advancement of science and philosophy.
One of their number, Krona, wished to discover the beginning, the origin of everything, and created a time viewer to see the point of creation.
Long story short, he messed up. His experiment failed, and resulted in the introduction of entropy to the beginning of the universe, erasing a billion years of existence from the cosmos, and sowing discord and chaos throughout the universe.
Feeling guilty about this, a number of the Maltusians decided to take responsibility for this disaster, and formed a society dedicated to the promotion of order, and justice in the universe. They became the Guardians, the Guardians of the Universe. They created a robotic police force which they dubbed the Manhunters to spread across the cosmos and protect life wherever it spawned. But Krona disagreed with the Guardians as to their methods. The Guardians eschewed emotion in favour of cold logic, but Krona argued that emotion was life, and to deny it meant blinding themselves to what it was they were defending. He attempted to flee, pursued by the Manhunters, and managed to capture one, and reprogram the entire force, leading to a programming error that convinced the Manhunters that life was the source of chaos, and must be eliminated.
The Guardians punished Krona, and eventually managed to decommission the Manhunters. Following several more attempts to create a successful police force, the Guardians eventually founded the Green Lantern Corps., molding the green energy of willpower, the most stable and least corrosive of the spectrum,into rings, the most powerful weapons in the universe.
Now, does this sound like a creation myth to anyone? The universe created by a White light (which turned out to be an embodying entity, the entity of life, which the Guardians later imprisoned within the Earth in order to prevent anyone from harming it and endangering all life), a race of god-like being setting themselves up as protectors of the cosmos?
I personally find it a little more exciting than a lot of the standard creation stories.

If you believe it, question it. If you question it, get an answer. If you have an answer, does that answer satisfy reality? Does it satisfy you? Probably not. For no one else will agree with you, not really.
