If one thinks about it, the only character reference we have for the devil is in the bible, and that makes him out to be a rather unpleasant fellow in terms of his overall personality. One has to keep in mind however that if the devil does exist, the bible is essentially enemy propaganda. It's not as though there's a counter-production relating to us how the bible misrepresented the devil in all of the stories he appears in.
Also as the original comment says, God himself has a much larger track record of atrocities and inhumane treatment of his beloved creations than Satan does. The devil has never committed genocide, ordered sacrifices, or given his ascent to things like rape, pillaging, or murder, so far as I'm aware.

Something I've always wondered, you know. If the devil hates god, and sends sinners to be tortured for all eternity, wouldn't it make more sense for the devil to refuse to punish the damned in an effort to annoy god? Surely the devil is being god's right hand man if he's contributing to god's plans.

Well, when speaking about the fictional universe of a book, it makes sense to reference that book, doesn't it?
If I'm going to talk about the political motivations of Cornelius Fudge, referencing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix would be only natural. It doesn't mean anyone lends credence to the notion that there's a secret community of wizards being kept secret by a governing body.
If you believe it, question it. If you question it, get an answer. If you have an answer, does that answer satisfy reality? Does it satisfy you? Probably not. For no one else will agree with you, not really.

It makes more sense to know what you're talking about if you choose to reference the book.
So, with that in mind, care to show us where it says that sinners will be tortured for eternity?

Isaiah 45:7
"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things."
I am going by the general perception of God rather than any painstakingly precise apologist interpretation of scripture.

Now try it in Greek. You need a hint?

Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life
The only hint I can imagine here is that you're going to try and translate it into something less like casting "ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels (Matt 25:41)"

Period. End of story.
Take a step back and realize that (almost) all religions have a the god as good and some evil force as the bad guy.
Yin and Yang.
Luke and Vader. (is star wars an official religion yet?)
Sun and moon.
etc...
Something to consider though:
The dark side still often has some good in it and a story to be heard. The vicious lion that kills the unsuspecting gazelle is trying to feed it's young, but still it gets judged for the attack.
Even the moon provides light and comfort on many nights. Vader did much good and even died doing an act of valor and self-sacrifice.
The truth is, Satan/the Devil/Lucifer is just a label we give to our occasional impulses and even then, it's only the morality of our various societies that decide who those impulses will be attributed to.

No, the hint is to figure out the original Greek word and look up the definition.
